Overview The patient is a male with the age of 40s. He complains that he has had irregular and fast pulse for a few days. His other complaints which have started with irregular and fast pulse are seeing something like stars when he opens his eyes, chest pain and sometimes difficulty in breathing. Irregular pulse disappeared right after the first acupuncture treatment. The number of fast pulse gradually decreased and disappeared after the forth acupuncture treatment. Treatment The acupuncture treatment is based on Individual Acupuncture for Adult. According to my diagnosis, I found weakness in his Lung energy and touched a Lung point in his elbow with a round-tip needle for a few seconds. After that, I tapped around his neck and head with another round-tip needle and let him rest for 15 minutes. After the 15 minutes rest, his pulse was calm down and there was no irregular pulse. I had him lie on his stomach, checked pressure-pain points on his back and gave general back treatment and the treatment to remove the pressure-pain. After the first treatment, his pulse became slower and there was no irregularity. On the second and third treatment, he didn’t have irregular pulse but fast pulse. I chose a point to slow down the pulse and touched the point with a round-tip needle. (I use acupuncture points on Yang meridian to slow down the pulse instead of the points on Yin meridian. In this case, I used a point on Small Intestine meridian.) The treatment on his back was the same as the first treatment. On the forth treatment, he told me that he had had fast pulse with palpitation the day before, but his main complaint was digestive issue and a sty on his right eye. When I checked his pulse, his pulse was not fast. When he came back for the fifth treatment, he said he hadn’t had fast pulse, so the treatment for irregular and fast pulse ended. Overview
The patient is a man with the age of 50s. His right shoulder started hurting a month ago and the pain got worse the past few days. He visited my clinic because he had had an acupuncture treatment with me a few years ago for shoulder pain and his shoulder had gotten better after one treatment. When he came in, he could barely move his right shoulder due to pain and felt severe pain around his right shoulder even with even a light touch. His right shoulder was also hurting at night. He had had a massage including around his right shoulder a few days before visiting me and it seemed like the massage caused more inflammation in his right shoulder, resulting in severe pain with a little bit of movement or a light touch and pain at night without movement in addition to usual shoulder pain. In the course of acupuncture treatments, I focused on removing severe inflammation caused by the massage for the first 3 treatments. By these treatments, pain at night disappeared and I could press around his right shoulder. Then I gave him regular shoulder pain treatment twice and he could use his right shoulder with strength though the range of motion was not complete yet. After the last treatment, he had to go on a trip, so I told him to come back when he would come back from the trip. He didn't come back for more treatment for his shoulder, but his shoulder got better and referred his client with shoulder pain to me. Treatment I mainly tried to remove severe inflammation around his shoulder using Dispersion needle for the first 3 treatments. After the inflammation decreased and around should was able to be pressed, I tried to remove pressure pain and tightness around his shoulder and between his shoulder blades using round-tip needles on distal acupuncture points. I attached a press-ball on Left ST-36 (2 inches below Left knee) at the end of the treatments, and that seemed like helping the rage of motion improved. The patient is a female with the age of 70s. Her main complaint is dizziness. She started feeling dizzy 3 days ago, especially when she was standing and sitting. She took prescribed medicine and felt better yesterday, but the dizziness got worse again today. Right after the first treatment, she didn’t feel dizzy. The next day she came back for the 2nd treatment, the dizziness decreased, but she still felt a little dizzy. When she came back for the 3rd treatment in 4 days, she reported me that her dizziness had disappeared after the 2nd acupuncture treatment. Treatment Based on the diagnosis, I mainly gave her the treatment to strengthen her Liver energy. Dizziness is often related to the weakness of Liver energy (Refer to Individual Acupuncture). There were some pressure-pain points on her abdomen and between her shoulder blades, so I removed the pressure-pain with round-tip needles. I also used an ear point for dizziness and after the treatments, attached a tiny gold ball like a seed on the point to keep it until the next treatment. The patient is a woman with the age of 70s. She complains that her left ankle has been painful since she woke up this morning. She feels painful at both inside and outside of her left ankle especially when she climbs up and down stairs. The pain goes up to the back of knee. I gave her acupuncture treatment explained in Individual Acupuncture Treatment and her ankle pain was healed by one acupuncture treatmement. Treatment When I checked her left ankle, there were a lot of painful points with pressure around her left ankle, especially around both sides of the ankle bones. I made diagnosis by checking her pulse, abdomen and neck, and touched an acupuncture point on left Kidney energy pathway with a round-tip needle, and tapped her neck and head with another round-tip needle. After that, I let her relax for 15 minutes on the treatment table. When I came back 15 minutes later, I checked her left ankle again. The painful points with pressure decreased to only two points. Other painful points on her abdomen and chest were all gone. I had her lie on her stomach and treated her back with round-tip needles, and had her lie on her back and checked her left ankle again. There were no painful points around her left ankle including the remaining two painful points after the relaxation. I asked her to check her ankle by standing and weighing her ankle, but there was no pain with the movements. The treatment for her left ankle ended. Related articles: [CASE] Sprained Ankle (Self-Treatment) [CASE] 14 Weeks Ankle Pain Disappeared by 1 Treatment Overview The patient is a woman with the age of 40s. Since eating foie gras at Christmas, she has been suffering from nausea for about a month. She feels nauseous 70 % of a day. She has heart burn and is taking acid suppressant prescribed by her family doctor. Her stool is loose. She also has pain below both shoulder blades since nausea started. She visited my clinic 1 month after the nausea started. My diagnosis was that her gallbladder was removed last year, but eating extremely fatty food made the flow of Liver and Gallbladder energy stagnated, weakening Spleen energy. After 3 acupuncture treatments, nausea disappeared, loose stool became firmed stool and the pain below shoulder blades disappeared. After 4th treatment, the course of treatment for nausea ended. Detail of Acupuncture Treatment The treatment is based on the treatment shown in Individual Acupuncture Treatment. [1st Treatment] When I checked her abdomen, there were more than 5 painful points with pressure in her abdomen, but after strengthening weakened Spleen with a Spleen point on her leg and 15 minutes rest after that, all the painful points disappeared. I asked her to lie on her stomach and checked her back. There were a lot of painful points with pressure between shoulder blades and under the left shoulder blade. These painful points with pressure disappeared after touching the points on the back of her head with a round-tip needle. I added moxa (heat therapy) on the points located even with the lower part of both shoulder blades (BL17) and the points located 2 inches lower than those points which are related to Gallbladder (BL19). [2nd Treatment: 3 days after the 1st Treatment] She didn’t have nausea since the last treatment. She felt bloated in her lower abdomen. Her stool was still loose. There was pain below her left shoulder blade. There were less painful points with pressure on her abdomen and back. The treatment was almost the same as the 1st Treatment, but I added moxa (heat therapy) on a point on her left wrist (TW4) and a point near her right knee (Gallbladder-34). [3rd Treatment: 5 days after the 2nd Treatment] She didn’t have nausea. When she ate fatty food, she felt heart burn a little. Her stool was still loose. When she sat long time, she felt pain below her left shoulder blade. The painful points with pressure on her back were less than 2nd Treatment. The treatment with needles were almost the same. I did moxa on the points related to Heart, Liver and Spleen on her left back and a point related to Stomach on her right back in addition to her left TW4 and right GB-34. [4th Treatment: 5 days after the 3rd Treatment] There was no nauseous feeling and no pain below her left shoulder blade. Her bowel movement became formed from loose stool. She complained a little bit of low back pain, so in addition to the same treatment as the 3rd Treatment, I added treatment to release her low back pain. Since her complaints related to her nausea got better, the course of treatments for her nausea ended. Consideration Her gallbladder was removed, so there was no gallbladder. But gallbladder energy and the energy pathway still exist and they were affected by what she ate. I think that is why the points related to Gallbladder energy showed up as pain or other reaction, and also helped her recover from all the nausea-related symptoms. In this season, there would be a lot of people who have a cold. Patients with high fever usually don’t visit an acupuncture clinic, but patients with other cold related symptoms often visit acupuncture clinic. Among those symptoms, there are a lot of patients with cough and cough is sometimes difficult to treat. Overview The patient is a woman with the age of 60s. A week ago, after she shoveled snow at the night of snow storm, her cold symptoms started. Cough started a day after shoveling and she lost voice the following day. Fever was around 100 degrees F. She coughed out yellow phlegm. She started taking antibiotics 2 days before visiting my clinic. She had more cough at night with phlegm, stuffy nose, clogged ears and pain in her ribs due to cough. I think that she sweat from shoveling and the sweat got cold making her body cold, and that weakened her Lung energy and she got cold symptoms. After 3 acupuncture treatments of strengthening her Lung energy and using cough points with 2 to 3 days interval, her cough disappeared. Acupuncture Treatment Detail [1st Treatment] After whole body treatment using non-insertion needles, I added heat therapy called moxa on her right cough point below the arm pit and points related to cold on her upper back, and I also attached a short needle on the right cough point like a sticker. At the end, I instructed her to lie on her side when she cough while she is sleeping and drink a cup of coffee when she cough to relax her throat. [2nd Treatment] 2 days after 1st treatment, she didn’t have cough at night and could sleep better, but still had cough when she moved her body or talked. Her nose was still stuffy. Her ears were less clogged. The treatment was similar to the previous one except that I did moxa on Lung points on her upper back instead of cold points. [3rd Treatment] 3 days after 2nd treatment, her cough decreased, but she still had cough when she moved her body and talked. Stuffy nose became runny nose. Her ears were completely opened. Her voice was back. The treatment was similar to the previous two treatments. There was no pain on the right cough point and there was pain on the left cough point, so I did moxa and attached a short needle on the left cough point. [Result] 1 week after 3rd treatment, she reported that right after the 2nd treatment, her cough was much less and the following day, all the symptoms disappeared including cough, runny nose and since her energy also came back, she cleaned her house. here to edit. Overview
The patient is a woman with the age of 30s. She was coming to my clinic regularly having other symptoms, but on the day before her visit, she hurt the left side of her neck when she turned to the left. She had pain a little above and inside of her left shoulder blade (Acupuncture point: SI-15) when she turned her neck to the left and looked up. The 1st treatment included the treatment to improve the energy flow in the whole body and the treatment to remove painful points with pressure around her neck and shoulder area. All the treatment was done with round-tip needles only touching or tapping the skin. Right after the treatment, she didn’t feel any pain when she moved her neck. When she came in a week for the 2nd treatment, she reported that she felt better for 3 days, but she had the same kind of pain as the last time. I gave her the similar treatment to the last time, and there was no pain when she moved her neck after the treatment. I told her to come back sooner than a week if she felt any pain in her neck. She came in a week for the 3rd treatment. She reported that she felt better for 4 days, but she went to massage the day before this visit and she couldn’t sleep last night due to pain in her neck. I gave her the similar treatment to the previous treatment. After the 3rd treatment, the pain in her neck completely disappeared. Consideration I recommended her to have treatments at shorter intervals than 1 week because she said she felt better for 3-4 days after each treatment. That is why I usually recommend to have treatments twice a week at the beginning of the course of treatments. Unfortunately, she could only come once a week. I think that 1 week interval between treatments was too long for this kind of acute pain and made her suffering from the neck pain longer than I had expected. To get better faster, it is surely better to have another treatment before the symptom comes back. The patient is a woman in age of 70s. She had had knee pain in both of her knees for a few years, but the pain in her left knee got worse a week ago. That made her difficult to stand up and she also felt pain while she was sleeping. She went see a doctor and was said that the cartridge of the knee was wearing down and knee replacement surgery was necessary. The prescribed pain medication was effective at the beginning, but it became ineffective now. She came to my clinic referred by another patient. She wanted to use her own knees without joint replacement surgery for some more years. When I checked her left knee at the first treatment, there were a lot of painful points with pressure around her left knee, especially inside and back of her left knee. At the third treatment, she reported that she didn’t have pain while walking and sleeping. At the fifth treatment, she said that she didn’t have pain when walking, standing and sitting, and there were no painful points with pressure around her left knee at all, so the course of treatments for her left knee ended. Acupuncture treatment detail The pattern is Liver or Kidney. Pressure-pain points were located mainly on Kidney, Liver and Leg Triple Warmer meridians around her left knee. These painful points were removed with the points on the back of the head and her left foot related to each meridian. In this case, the pain around her knee was removed by touching distal points with non-insertion needle (Teishin), though moxa (heat therapy) treatment around the painful knee is usually performed when the pain is caused by wear of cartridge. I didn’t use either any sharp needles or moxa. If you are suffering from knee pain even after you have tried various things, we’re here to help! In that case, I usually recommend home therapy with moxa (heat therapy) and/or drinking lotus root tea to strengthen Lung energy in addition to acupuncture treatment, but such cough often doesn't go away easily.
The following is the case which showed very good result after one acupuncture treatment. The patient in her 70s initially came to my clinic to treat other symptoms. When I was checking her pulse, she was coughing on the treatment table, so I asked her about that. She had bronchitis 4 months ago and the bronchitis got better 2 months ago, but still cough had been continuing since then. After I performed whole body treatment and treatment for her main complaint, to treat her cough, I burned moxa, which is a kind of dried herb, on a tender point under her arm pit and attached a short needle on the same acupuncture point to bring it back home. When she came back to my clinic 4 days after the previous treatment, she reported me that her cough reduced dramatically. This is about after Day 3. I made a big mistake after that.
Day 5 I felt much better though the left buttock felt a little tight. So I ran 5 miles to check whether my low back got really better or not. I didn’t feel any pain in my low back and buttocks afterwards. So I thought my low back was completely better. Day 6 When I was treating a patient, I had to keep my posture bending forward over the face of the patient for facial treatment. I felt shooting pain on the left SI joint area. After that, I couldn’t bend forward again. Though I always said to my patients to take it easy for a while when they had pain, I made the same mistake and made the low back pain happen again. This time the pain was localized around the left SI joint. I treated myself with the same method that had relieved the pain. I inserted some needles on my occiput where released the pain on the SI joint and kept the needles for a while. But the needles were not so effective this time and the low back pain stayed the same. Day 7 I tried to treat my low back pain again. I tried to find good points to relieve the pain on my occiput and inserted some needles but there was not much change in my low back. I was at a loss of how to treat my low back. Day 8 I couldn't get good results from the treatment a day before, so I decided to use a round-tip needle instead of regular acupuncture needles. Again I tried to find a responsive point with my right index finger touching left SI joint where was tight and painful with my left index finger. I found a point which the energy passed through the both fingers around behind the left ear and placed a round-tip needle on the exact point. I kept the needle touching the point for about 30 seconds. After that, my low back felt much better and I could bend forward. Day 14 Not to make the same mistake, I didn’t go running. Instead I repeated the same treatment a few times after Day 8. This day I finally tried to check my low back by running 5 miles again. After the running, there was no abnormality. I ran almost every other day 4 times after Day 14, but the low back pain hasn’t come back again. What I learned 1. When there is or was acute type of pain in the body, it is better to rest where you have a problem for a while even if you don’t feel pain very much. 2. When the same problem happens again, it becomes more difficult to treat. 3. Treatment on the head is very convenient and effective to treat myself and others. 4. Treatment using a round-tip needle on the heads can be easier than using regular insertion needles. Insertion needles are usually used for acupuncture treatment on the head, so I have thought that treatment on the head with a round-tip needle is not so effective as with insertion needles. But I felt that a round-tip needle was as effective as insertion needles even for the treatment on the head. In addition, in the case of a round-tip needle, it can be easy to place the tip of the needle on the exact point where the energy flows and change the direction of the needle toward being able to feel more energy. |
