Pain in hands
She suddenly experienced pain in her hands. She visited various hospitals and had X-ray, blood test and MRI, but there was no abnormality found. But the pain in her hands increased. 1 year later. The cause of the pain turned out to be clenching of her back teeth. Clenching teeth makes the muscle called scalene which is located at the neck tight. The tightness presses the nerves running between the scalene. That sometimes causes pain in the clavicle, the arm or the hand. In her case, the nerve connected to the hand was pressed strongly, causing the pain in her palms. She was instructed to do the exercise that relaxes the scalene and 1 month later the pain was mostly gone. Pain in left thigh 12 years ago when she climbed up stairs, she suddenly had the pain in her left thigh that was as strong as she couldn’t stand. The pain was like the bone and muscle were grasped. After that, she felt the pain repeatedly. In addition to that, the period she felt the pain gradually became longer so she had to lie down for hours until the pain went away. She visited more than 30 hospitals but no cause was found. 10 years after she had the first pain, at a hospital she was instructed to keep a diary about the pain such as the scale of the pain, exercises, the condition of sleep, etc. By the diary, the cause of the pain in her left thigh turned out to be rain. The pain that is caused by weather is called Weather Pains. When it rains, air pressure falls. The sensor in the inner ear detects change in air pressure. When the sensor reacts the change in air pressure, the sympathetic nerve becomes active, causing changes in blood pressure, pulse rate. This is normal reaction, but there are people whose sensor overreacts. In that case, the sympathetic nerve affects the sensory nerve which runs by the sympathetic nerve and transfers pain. By that, the brain mistakenly recognizes it as pain. In her case, the pain diary showed the connection between the pain and weather. People with weather pains often have signs such as feeling sluggish, feeling fuzzy or heaviness in the shoulders. If you like to use pain killers, it is better to use them at this timing than at the time you have pain. Other effective countermeasures are going to bed and getting up at the same time every day, and moving the body outside actively because they regulate the sympathetic nerve.

The brain is damaged during summer, but that is not due to the heat or dehydration. That is because people tend to stay home where is air-conditioned to avoid heat stroke or dehydration. If you tend to stay home, you don’t walk and talk very much. No walking and no talking damage the brain during summer. If you don’t do aftercare of the brain, there is a risk that your memory falls or your thinking becomes slower. Why do no walking and no talking give bad effects to the brain? Using the muscles of the legs promotes the blood circulation to the brain. When you talk, you use the frontal lobe where speaks words and the temporal lobe where understands words so if you don’t use them, the damage to the brain increases. If so, does talking with your family prevent the damage to the brain? Talking with your family doesn’t decrease the damage to the brain. When you talk with your family, you are not careful to speak. That means you don’t need to care about whether or not the topic is interesting, or whether or not how to speak is rude. So the brain is not used so much at that time. Therefore, to reduce the damage to the brain, it is effective to talk with people other than the family. What is the damage to the brain stored during summer? If the nerve cells in the brain are personal computers and the nerve fibers which connect the nerve cells are cables, the damage due to no walking and no talking decrease the number of the cables. The decrease of the cables causes the order of the brain difficult to be transmitted. (Fig. 1) The decrease of the cables for memory causes loss of memory. The decrease of the cables for motion causes stumbling. We make various judgements when we walk. If the cable becomes thin, the transmitting speed becomes slow when we lift our legs, so we can’t lift the legs sufficiently and then we fall down. The decrease of the cables for reason causes short-temper. The frontal lobe of the brain plays a role to control emotions. The decrease of the cables to the frontal lobes causes inability of controlling emotions sufficiently. Is it possible to recover the cables once being cut? The nerve cells (personal computers) can’t be increased. The nerve fibers (cables) can be increased and can be connected to other nerve cells (personal computers). What is the aftercare method? A hint of the method is breathing in and out frequently, probing your memory. That is singing in Karaoke. While you are singing in Karaoke, various parts of the brain are used including the cables connecting personal computers. Tempo, Interval: The frontal lobe Memorizing lyrics: Memory area in the temporal lobe Breather: Motor area Also playing musical instruments increases the cables. For example, the corpus callosum (a bundle of cables) of a pianist whose left and right hands move differently is developed thickly. Another aftercare method for the brain: The method to improve the function of the hippocampus which controls memory is 10 minutes fast walking a day. The protein that activates hippocampus is produced by light aerobic exercise. The eye is the bare organ because the eyes have to see images taking in light unlike other organs such as the lungs or the heart.
What happens if the bare eye is exposed to UV rays during summer? The risk to have cataract becomes higher. There is the data that people who live in an area which latitude is low where are stronger UV rays have more cataract. That is why care is important. In fact, it is said that cataract is a disease that most people experience such as 50% of 50’s, 70% of 60’s and more than 90% of 70’s or above. The lens of the eye absorbs 99.9% of UV rays but this causes cataract. Why do UV rays make the clear lens of the eye white and cloudy? The lens of the eye is something like the white of an egg. The white of an egg is clear when it is raw, but it becomes white when it is heated. Light energy of UV rays is accumulated damaging the lens of the eye, resulting in becoming white and cloudy. The key word for the aftercare of the eyes is Lutein. It can be expected that taking lutein decreases the damage of UV rays during summer, reducing the risk of cataract. Lutein is rich in spinach. The amount of Lutein per 100 g: Broccoli: 1.4 mg Greenpeace: 2.4 mg Spinach: 12.2 mg The efficient cooking method to take lutein is a dish which oil is used. Lutein is soluble in oil so lutein is easier to be absorbed when it is cooked with oil such as spinach and corn sautéed in butter (Fig. 1). It takes about a month until you have spots on the skin after being exposed to UV rays. That means spots caused by UV rays in July and August are being made right now. So aftercare plays a very important role to prevent spots on the skin.
How are skin spots made? The skin tries to put up a black umbrella to protect the skin from strong UV rays. The black umbrella is the pigment melanin. The pigment melanin tries to protect the skin from the UV rays, but when the pigment melanin stays, it becomes a spot on the skin. So we should close the black umbrella (the pigment melanin), but there is a substance which interferes with closing the black umbrella. Which is the same as the substance causing the spots on the skin? (A) Moles on tiles (B) Burns of a bread (C) Collar stains of a white shirt The answer is (B) Burns of a bread. It is called Maillard reaction. It recently turned out that spots on the skin and aging were caused by Maillard reaction in the body. “Burns of a bread” in the body is a substance called AGE. If you have a lot of AGE in your body, you easily have spots on the skin. The important point of aftercare to prevent spots on the skin is not to store AGE in the body. How can we not store AGE in the body? Advanced glycation end products (AGEs) are proteins or lipids that become glycated as a result of exposure to sugars. In other words, when sugar attaches to collagen (proteins), the collagen transforms into AGE. If there is AGE, excessive melanin is secreted by a little bit of exposure to UV rays. Now our skin is in the condition that black umbrellas (pigment melanin) are open to protect the skin from UV rays we were exposed to during summer. That means the skin is suppressing the absorption of UV rays by making the skin dark. Spots are not supposed to occur if the umbrellas are closed, but if you have a lot of AGE in the body, the skin tries to put up the black umbrellas even though UV rays are weak, leaving spots on the skin easily. Therefore, medically correct aftercare for the skin is closing the black umbrellas by decreasing AGE and trying not to leave spots. The point for the aftercare is not to take too much food containing AGE. Meat dishes contain a lot of AGE. Amount of AGE: Vegetable<Carbohydrate<Fish<Meat But if you devise how to cook meat, you can decrease the amount of AGE. The amount of AGE becomes one tenth by boiling and steaming meat, compared to frying meat. But there is a method to reduce AGE of oily dishes. Cooking after precooking meat with vinegar reduces AGE. If you eat meat dishes with vinegar or lemon, etc., you can prevent excessive intake of AGE because it becomes difficult for collagen to attach to sugar. Just pouring lemon juice on a fried dish reduces AGE. Also it can be expected that Chitin and Chitosan contained in mushrooms are effective to suppress the absorption of AGE. The following YouTube video is a part of Individual Acupuncture Treatment showing treatment on the shoulder area. The technique is called Spreading Needle Technique and I'm using a type of needles called Ja Teishin. This is done on most patients at the end of the treatment. |
