Summer Cold
Summer cold is stubborn and can cause respiratory disorders like prolonged cough, pneumonia. Summer cold is often accompanied with diarrhea and vomit, and we also sweat a lot in summer, so it can cause dehydration. The temperature difference between the indoor and outdoor is extreme so that the immune is weakened. Which is better to prevent summer cold, coffee or green tea? Green tea is better to prevent summer cold. Catechin contained in green tea attaches to viruses and prevents them from attaching to the mucus membrane. Chlorogenic acid contained in coffee suppresses the absorption of sugar and promotes the metabolism of fat. Caffeine activates a type of enzyme called Lipase, which breaks down fat. If you feel dizzy when you are outside, you feel tingling sensation in the one side of your body or you can’t speak fluently, these symptoms can be a sign of stroke caused by the heat in summer. Drinking a cup of coffee every day lowers the risk of stroke by 20 %. When we sweat, the amount of water in the blood vessel decreases, the blood flow becomes bad and the blood vessel is raptured or blocked, resulting in stroke. Caffeine contained in coffee widens the blood vessel and improves the blood flow. Caffeine prevents the blockage of the blood vessel by promoting the metabolism of fat and other substances in the blood flow. But taking large amount of caffeine at once contracts the blood vessel or can put a strain on the heart. According to a research, drinking 3-4 cups of coffee a day lowered the risk of heart diseases, but drinking more than that didn’t show any effect, drinking 3-4 cups of coffee a day is the best for our blood vessels. Which can control a rise in blood sugar levels, drinking a cup of coffee before a meal or after a meal? Drinking a cup of coffee before a meal controls a rise in blood sugar levels. Sugar and fat contained in a meal are absorbed in the blood vessel from the stomach and the intestine, but too much amount of sugar and fat raises blood sugar level rapidly and damages the blood vessel. Caffeine has the function to prevent the absorption of sugar and fat in the stomach and the intestine, so drinking a cup of coffee before a meal can be expected to prevent a rapid rise in blood sugar level. Waste products like body cells are accumulated in the body with age. Then the immune cell which is supposed to protect our body attacks the cells that became waste products considered as the enemy, causing small inflammation.
This small inflammation is the cause of aging. The small inflammation continues to increase all over the body with age. It has turned out that there is a substance that slows aging. Administration of the substance prevents the cells that became waste from being attacked by the immune cells and inflammation is far less likely to happen. The mice in Fig. 1 are the same age (80 years old if human). The left mouse, which looks young, was administered the substance and the right mouse, which looks old, was not administered the substance. The substance that slows down aging is polyamine. Polyamine exists in all the creatures and we can’t live without it. The amount of polyamine decreases with age, while the amount of inflammation increases with age in inverse proportion to the amount of polyamine. Polyamine was known as the substance that increased the cell and was necessary when we grew up. It has recently turned out that polyamine slows down aging. The food that is rich in polyamine is soy products and mushrooms. It requires a few months to more than a year to show the effect by eating soy products and mushrooms, so it is important to eat them every day. The young heart has a lot of capillaries and the blood circulation is good so that sufficient nutrition is delivered and the heart can beat vigorously.
But the number of capillaries decreases with age so that the nutrition delivered to the heart also decreases, making the heart beat weak. Ignoring this condition can cause serious heart diseases. But recently a substance to stop the aging of heart has turned out. The substance is GLP-1. According to a research published on The New England Journal of Medicine, people who took GLP-1 for 3 and a half years had 22% less development of heart diseases that people who didn’t. Therefore, GLP-1 can be expected to prevent the aging of the heart and keep vigorous heartbeat. GLP-1 is a hormone secreted from the small intestine. The keys to increase the secretion of GLP-1 are: (1)What to eat (2)When to eat (1) What to eat The important things of what you eat are foods containing proper amount of sugar and insoluble dietary fiber, which stimulates the small intestine and promotes the secretion of GLP-1. The foods containing proper amount to sugar and insoluble dietary fiber are root vegetables such as carrot, burdock, potato, sweet potato, yam, etc. Different from carbohydrate, the sugar contained in root vegetables is appropriate to stimulate the small intestine and root vegetables are rich in insoluble dietary fiber as well (Fig. 1). (2) When to eat The important thing of when to eat is eating 3 meals a day at the same time. This makes the small intestine stimulated at the same time, leading to more secretion of GLP-1. GLP-1 originally got attention as a hormone lowering blood sugar and is used as the medication for diabetes. But it has turned out that GLP-1 protects the blood vessels of the heart as well. 2 functions of GLP-1 (1) It was said that lost capillaries wouldn’t increase again, but according to various researches, GLP-1 can increase capillaries. (2) It was also said that plaque, which rapture causes heart attack, created once in the blood vessel wouldn’t be removed, but GLP-1 can decrease plaque, prevent the hardening of the arteries and protect the function of the heart. Eating root vegetables at the same time 3 times a day stimulates the small intestine regularly and activates the secretion of GLP-1. It seems a little difficult. But there is a food that is easy to take with you and is expected to secrete GLP-1. Almond is the food expected to secrete GLP-1. Nuts are rich in insoluble dietary fiber and almond has a higher content of insoluble dietary fiber than other nuts and root vegetables. So it is recommended to eat root vegetables 3 times a day at the same time as often as possible and to take almonds when you can’t eat root vegetables at the regular time. In UK, it is very common method to control the symptoms of pollen allergies.
The method is applying Vaseline in the nostril. Pollens break when they come into the nostril and more allergen substances come out like the time of pollination. Nasal discharge is mildly alkaline which is suited to break pollens. Vaseline prevents pollens from breaking because Vaseline is not water but mineral oil. Applying Vaseline in the nostril prevents the symptoms in the eyes because there is nerve reaction between the eye and the nose. How to apply Vaseline Apply Vaseline around the entrance of the nostril with cotton swabs. Sometimes blow your nose and apply again 3 to 4 times a day. But if you have seborrheic dermatitis which the skin is sensitive to oil, avoid using Vaseline. (1) Vaseline prevents pollens from going into the nostril, preventing the allergens of the husk. (2) Vaseline prevents crushing husk of pollens, preventing the allergens of the inside. Other preventative measures (1) Sun bathing: Vitamin D produced by sun bathing suppresses allergy reactions (15 minutes a day, 2 times a week). (2) Clean the floor: Pollens are difficult to be accumulated on the slippery floor. (3) Mask: recent masks can cut pollens by 99 %. The connection between the bladder and the urinary tract is supposed to be closed so that urine doesn’t leak even if pressure is applied to the abdomen. But when the blander is prolapsed, the connection is open so that urine easily leaks if a little bit of pressure is applied to the abdomen (Fig. 1 & 2). Fig. 3 shows the actual moment of urinary leakage.
The bladder of a woman with uncomfortable feeling in the lower abdomen all the time like a pin-pong ball is stuck is deformed as shown in Fig. 4. In the process of evolution, human pelvis became wider and the hole became bigger because the head of human babies that were born became big, so the internal organs tend to be prolapsed. But there is the pelvic floor muscle that supports the internal organs. If the pelvic floor muscle is damaged by something like a childbirth, the muscle becomes loose and the bladder lowers and is deformed. In France, there aren’t too many people who have urine leakage. Why? Because the exercise blowing up a balloon is recommended and performed. When blowing up a balloon, the diaphragm goes up and the pressure to the pelvic floor muscle decreases so that it makes easier to tighten the anus and contract the pelvic floor muscle. Internal Organ Lift-up Exercise (1) It is important to focus where you move, which is the muscle of the anus used for holding your gas (Fig. 7-1). (2) Before moving the muscle, relax your body and inhale slowly (Fig. 7-2). (3) Tighten the muscle around the anus, exhaling slowly. At the beginning, try for 3 seconds (Fig. 7-3). (4) Relax after exhaling. Try to do this exercise for 10 reps as 1 set, more than 2 sets a day. (5) You can do this exercise with sitting or lying, too. If you continue for 3 months, you can feel the effect (Fig. 7-4). As a result of the exercise to tighten the anus for 1 month, the form of the bladder was improved as shown in Fig. 5 and the discomfort in the lower abdomen gradually decreased. However, people whose pelvic floor muscle can’t contract due to the problem of the nerve need to consult a specialist for whether or not a surgery is necessary. Prevention The causes to loosen the pelvic floor muscle: Constipation, Pollen allergy/Asthma, Childbirth, Obesity (raise the abdominal pressure) Experience of prostate surgery (male) (damage of the nerve) When you strain to pass stools, it is effective to raise your arms above in order to lower the abdominal pressure because raising the arms enlarges the abdominal space (Fig. 6). When you lift up heavy things, straightening your back lowers the pressure to the pelvic floor muscle. According to a recent research, the cause of stiff neck and stiff shoulders are different.
Stiff shoulders are caused by the stiffness of the trapezius muscle which is the shallow layer of the muscles in the upper back. On the other hand, stiff neck is caused by the tension of the suboccipital muscles which are the deep layer of the muscles in the back of the neck (Fig. 1). The causes of stiff neck are: (1) Posture For example, when you look at the screen of PC, you bend your body a little forward and lift your head backward. This posture tightens the suboccipital muscles and leads to stiff neck (Fig. 2). (2) Eyes In an experiment, people without stiff neck watched a rally in the table tennis and followed the ball for an hour, sitting beside the table-tennis table and fixing their neck. After the experiment, their suboccipital muscles became harder than before the experiment. Why does moving eyes tighten the suboccipital muscles? When we move our eyes, our face also moves slightly and the place where controls this movement is the suboccipital muscles. The screens of smart phones are very small, so it seems like the eyes don’t move. But actually our eyes move on the screen and we look down to the screen. That tightens the suboccipital muscles (Fig. 3). Exercises to loosen the suboccipital muscles The following exercises are more effective when they are performed lying on your back because the neck can relax. 1. Shaking-Head Exercise (Fig. 4) (1) Close your eyes. (2) Turn your head right and left slowly (3 seconds each) within 45 degrees. (3) Repeat 20 reps for 3 times a day. 2. Nodding Exercise (Fig. 5) (1) Prepare low pillow or towel and close your eyes. (2) Chin up slowly (3 seconds) not to tighten the muscles and return to the original state. (3) Repeat 20 reps for 3 times a day. It is important for both exercises not to tighten the muscles. 3. Tucking-Chin-In Exercise (Fig. 6) (1) Tuck your chin in for 3 seconds and relax. (2) Repeat 10 reps for 3 times a day. According to a research published on British Journal of Nutrition, 2015, it has turned out that taking a certain oil a lot lowers the risk of developing heart diseases by about 40 % and the death rate by about 25 %.
The oil is Olive Oil. The area where the death rate due to heart diseases is fewest in the world by using olive oil is Crete in Greece. Why olive oil is good for the heart? Oleocanthal contained in extra virgin olive oil is a type of polyphenol. Spicy taste of extra virgin olive oil is due to oleocanthal. Oleocanthal has the anti-inflammatory effect that calms the inflammation of the heart and the blood vessel caused by aging and prevents the aging of the heart. How to use olive oil by people in Crete, Greece whose heart is young (1) Olive oil is used for cooking with heat as well Olive oil is hard to be oxidized by heating, compared to other oils, so it is suitable that olive oil is used for fried food or stir-fried food. (2) Olive oil is used with compatible food The compatible food is tomato. Tomato contains a lot of substances that have antioxidizing effect such as lycopene. Lycopene is oil-soluble substance so that lycopene is easily absorbed in the blood when it is cooked with oil. How much olive oil should be taken a day? 2 to 4 tablespoons a day are suitable, but it is better to replace the oil in your daily life to olive oil to prevent too much oil consumption. |
