Our body repeats destruction and regeneration.
Sclerostin is a causal substance that makes the bones hollow and is secreted when the bone is destructed.
Dropping your heels decreases the secretion of sclerostin, decreasing the amount of the bones destroyed and the amount bones that is regenerated becomes more than destructed, strengthening the bone.

ST36 is located where the finger hits the bone when pushing the bone below the knee upward (Fig. 1).

SP6 is located where the point 4 fingers above the inner side of the ankle bone meets the inside of the leg bone (Fig. 1).

There is a patient who visits my practice every two weeks.
She came with knee pain last time. After the treatment, the knee pain disappeared, but I judged that one treatment was not enough to heal her knee and told her to come back in a week instead of two weeks.
She came back in a week.
I asked her a usual question, “How do you feel today?”
She said, “I forgot why I came last week.”
“You had knee pain last week.”
“My knee is all better.”
It is good to hear that her knee was improved so much that she forgot what her symptom was.

If you have low back pain or knee pain for years and nothing have helped, the cause of the pain is possibly not from your low back or knees.
Check if the lower back or knee pain is caused by the new cause
When one of the knees is lifted up and the posture is checked from the back, if the buttock that the knee is lifted up is higher than the other side, that is normal.
But if the buttock that the knee is lifted up is level with the other side or lower than the other side, that can be caused by the new cause (Fig. 1 & 2).
This condition is caused by the abnormality of the hip joint.
The normal hip joint has a gap in the joint, but the gap in the abnormal hip joint is narrow (Fig. 3).
The narrowing of the gap causes inflammation, and the pain in the hip joint can be mistakenly felt at the low back or knee where is connected to the hip joint through the muscles and nerves (Fig. 4).
Why does the abnormality of the hip joint occur?
There is cartridge that plays a role of cushion between the femur and the pelvis. The abnormality of the hip joint is caused by placing a huge load on the cartridge.
Since the load is placed to the pelvis diagonally due to the structure, more load is placed than placing a load vertically like the knee joint.
The cartridge gradually wears due to aging or other reasons.
The method to regenerate the worn cartridge of the hip joint
The method is called Jiggling that is the movement of shaking the leg lightly up and down or from side to side.
When you move the hip joint by shaking the leg, nutrition flows into the joint from synovial fluid and the growth of the cartridge is promoted, regenerating the cartridge.
How to do the Jiggling
(1) Sit on a chair bending your knees at 90 degree and move your heels up and down.
(2) You can do it for both legs at the same time or for each leg alternately.
(3) Doing it more than 2 hours a day is effective.
Regeneration of the cartridge takes more than a few years, but the pain can be relieved much sooner (Fig. 5).
A 53 years old woman who had low back pain for years and whose cartridge of the hip joints were worn out tried the jiggling 2-3 hours a day. 10 days later she started to feel lighter in her low back and when she lifted up a box, she didn’t feel pain, though she was feeling pain before. The most difficult movement was bending her back backward, but she didn’t feel pain with this movement.
The patient is a woman in age of 70s.
She had had knee pain in both of her knees for a few years, but the pain in her left knee got worse a week ago. That made her difficult to stand up and she also felt pain while she was sleeping. She went see a doctor and was said that the cartridge of the knee was wearing down and knee replacement surgery was necessary. The prescribed pain medication was effective at the beginning, but it became ineffective now. She came to my clinic referred by another patient. She wanted to use her own knees without joint replacement surgery for some more years.
When I checked her left knee at the first treatment, there were a lot of painful points with pressure around her left knee, especially inside and back of her left knee.
At the third treatment, she reported that she didn’t have pain while walking and sleeping.
At the fifth treatment, she said that she didn’t have pain when walking, standing and sitting, and there were no painful points with pressure around her left knee at all, so the course of treatments for her left knee ended.
Acupuncture treatment detail
The pattern is Liver or Kidney. Pressure-pain points were located mainly on Kidney, Liver and Leg Triple Warmer meridians around her left knee. These painful points were removed with the points on the back of the head and her left foot related to each meridian.
In this case, the pain around her knee was removed by touching distal points with non-insertion needle (Teishin), though moxa (heat therapy) treatment around the painful knee is usually performed when the pain is caused by wear of cartridge.
I didn’t use either any sharp needles or moxa.

A lot of knee pain is caused by the inflammation substance secreted by wearing off of the cartridge.
In addition, the cold in winter shrinks the blood vessels around the knee, causing poor blood circulation, and the inflammation substance in the blood steam stays around the knee, causing more pain.
According to a research reported in Poland, 2016, 4822 people who had knee pain took a substance every day and 86 % of them reported the alleviation of the pain.
A food contains the substance. That is Avocado.
Avocado is rich in good fat, vitamins and minerals, and registered as the most nutritious fruit in the Guinness World Record.
By the recent research, it has turned out that a substance contained in avocado is effective to suppress knee pain. The substance in avocado is used as medicine for knee pain in Europe.
20 % of avocado is fat which is expected to improve knee pain.
The fat of avocado has the functions to protect the cartridge of the knee and to prevent the production of the enzyme which breaks the cartridge.
It is confirmed that eating avocado reduces knee pain and makes the movement of the knee better.
How much avocado should we eat?
It has not turned out that how much avocado we should eat to improve knee pain. However, avocado is eaten a lot in Mexico and according to a survey, middle-aged Mexican people who live in Japan and have younger cartridges of the knees than their ages eat about 3.5 pieces of avocado a week on average.
Avocado is rich in fat, but the unsaturated fatty acid of avocado lowers LDL cholesterol while animal fat increases LDL cholesterol.
How should we eat avocado?
It is more effective to eat avocado with soy oil. Fried avocado with soy oil is good.
When eating raw, it is good to eat avocado salad with mayonnaise because mayonnaise contains soy oil.
A lot of knee pain is caused by aging.
It is said that 60 % of women whose age is more than 60 in Japan suffer from knee pain.
Overuse of the knee for years decreases the thickness of the cartridge.
Wearing out of the cartridge makes the bones directly rubbed each other, causing inflammation.
The burden on the knees when human walks is 3 times bigger than his or her weight.
There is a food which prevents and improves the knee pain.
This food doesn’t contain either chondroitin or glucosamine which are famous for knee problems.
The food is ginger.
Gingerol contained in ginger has analgesic action and anti-inflammatory action.
If you have knee pain, it is recommended to eat 60 grams of ginger a day.
If it is dried ginger, one tenth of amount, 6 grams per day is good to take because water in ginger is removed and the substance is concentrated. (Fig. 1)
Gingerol changes to shogaol when ginger is heated up, but the effect on the knee pain doesn’t change.
Ginger is effective for not only knee pain but also any joint pain.
Knee pain when going down the stairs
The cause of these knee pain is wear of cartridge.
Osteoarthritis of the knee
Cartridge absorbing the shock wears away by ageing.
However, if you don’t move because it is painful, the muscles and tendons around the knee become hard and the weight also increases. This makes the condition worse.
To improve the knee pain, first of all, losing weight is important. If you can lose weight by 7 lbs. (3 Kg), your knee will be much easier. Secondly when you have knee pain, you tend to have your knee always bent a little bit so it is important to straighten your knee, warming up your knee.
Exercise for knee pain after soaking in the tub (Fig. 1)
(1) Warm your knees by soaking in the tub. The joints and muscles around your knees become softer so your knees become easier to stretch.
(2) Sit in a chair and stretch your knee slowly, having your toes face the ceiling.
(3) Keep your knee straight for 10 seconds.
(4) Repeat this 5-10 times for both legs.
Once you have muscle strength and flexibility in your knee by this exercise, your knee pain will be improved.
