I often ask my patients to check the side-effects of the medications they are taking because their symptoms can be caused by the side-effects. Common side-effects are headache, dizziness, nausea, stomachache, etc.
I want to share a side-effect of a medication that I heard and was very surprised at. Statins are known as medications to lower the level of LDL or so-called "bad" cholesterol. If your are diagnosed as high cholesterol, Statins are the most commonly prescribed medications. One of Statins' side-effects is muscle breaking down. If you need to stop walking and sit down for a while, that can be caused by the side effect. When you have spinal stenosis, you also need to stop walking, but you can walk again after bending over and supplying blood to the nerve, no need to sit down because your legs have strength since there is no muscle breaking down. If your urine is reddish, substance of melting muscle is in urine. That also can cause kidney failure. If you are taking Statins and severe muscle related health issues, it is recommended to consider the side-effect and consult your doctor.

I want to share Hand Therapy to improve constipation. Please try to press the following 4 points. When you press the points, please make sure the bathroom is close enough to go right after pressing these points. Don’t press the points in the public transportations or outside you can’t find a bathroom. 1. Sigmoid colon (Left hand) Slid down your finger from the ring finger and the point is located where the finger stops, or 2 thumbs above from the wrist crease. 2. Rectum (Left hand) The point is located next to the point for Sigmoid colon. 3. Diencephalon (Both hands) The point is located at the center of the pad of the thumb, where is the center of the fingerprint. 4. Ovary/Testicle (Both hands) The point is located at 2 thumbs below the bone at the wrist. [Tips] 1. It is more effective to find tender or painful point around the points. 2. Use the edge of the finger when you press the point. 3. Press the above points for 7 seconds/3 times each, and 3 to 5 times a day. 4. Drink a glass of water to excrete waste products after pressing the points. I think there are a lot of people who wake up for urination if you are more than 50s. If you wake up only once for urination and can go back to sleep easily, there is not much problems. But if you wake up frequently for urination, your sleep is disturbed and you should not feel rested when you get up in the morning. If you are one of them, please try the following Hand Therapy. Where you need to press is 3 points on your hand. 1. Bladder reflection point 2. Diencephalon (a part of the brain) reflection point 3. Ovary and Testicle reflection point Press each point for 7 seconds, 3 times and 3 times a day. It is good to feel some tenderness or pain at the points. Why I want to share this hand therapy is I tried and definitely I felt the effect. If you are suffering from waking up for urination, please try! Q. People who sweat a lot have good metabolism. Is this correct?
A. Incorrect. People with good metabolism sweat only when they move their body. If you don’t move your body very much but sweat a lot, you must be careful. For example, people with obesity have thick subcutaneous fat and visceral fat, so heat tends to build up inside the body and a little bid of walk causes sweat. Q. Which is better to drink first in the morning to increase your metabolism and lose weight, hot water, or room temperature’s water? A. Room temperature’s water. Drinking water colder than your body temperature increases the metabolism and helps lose weight. Our body has the function to keep our temperature, so when we drink cold water, our body activates the metabolism to keep our temperature. It is more effective to drink room temperature’s water not only in the morning but also during the daytime often. Q. Which is more effective to increase metabolism and lose weight, meat dishes or fish dishes? A. Fish dishes. Taking EPA and DHA contained in fish dishes in the body increases beige fat cells, which burn fat cells and increase energy consumption, that means increase metabolism. Eating fish in the morning is more effective to absorb EPA and DHA. Q. Which is more effective to lose weight, grilled fish or raw fish? A. Raw fish. When fish is grilled, EPA and DHA fall off with oils. Glutamic acid that is the protein of fish is broken down when it is grilled. Eating raw fish is more effective to lose weight. You can use the supplement of EPA and DHA as well. It is good to drink green tea or mint tea after eating. Catechin contained in green tea and menthol contained in mint tea increase beige fat cells. Q. How can we increase beige fat cells easily at home? A. Cooling around the neck. Beige fat cells increase by cold stimulation to the body. Cooling around the neck with ice belt or cold towel for 1 hour a day is effective. However, cold stimulation sometimes increases blood pressure, so it is important to be careful if you have high blood pressure or heart diseases. Aerobic exercise increases beige fat cells. Light exercise like fast walking is more effective than hard exercises. Recommended exercises (1) Walk with a little wider step (2 to 4 inches wider than usual) (2) When you need to climb up stairs, climb up one by one to increase energy consumption. (3) While you are sitting, pull your stomach in without using the backrest of the chair. (4) Zombie exercise Pull your stomach in, straighten your back, stick your chest out, relax your shoulders, arms and hands completely, and swing your arms moving your shoulders back and forth one by one. Walk in a small step standing on your tiptoes. This exercise consumes more than double the energy because of wiggling the body. It is not true that you have to move more than 20 minutes to burn your fat. You can burn your fat by exercising for short periods frequently.

If you feel pain or tightness in the front side of the hip joint, this exercise is good for you. This exercise is to loosen the iliac muscle, which connects from the the inside of the pelvis to the inside of the hip joint. The important point of this exercise is to do it slowly because if you do it quickly, other muscles are used and it doesn't loosen the iliac muscle. When you lie on your stomach and bend your knee, if it is very tight, that is the tightness of the iliac muscle. Please try this exercise by watching the following. This exercise loosens your hamstrings. It only takes 30 seconds for both of your hamstrings and you can feel your hamstring gets looser right after the exercise.
