Knee pain when going down the stairs
The cause of these knee pain is wear of cartridge. Osteoarthritis of the knee Cartridge absorbing the shock wears away by ageing. However, if you don’t move because it is painful, the muscles and tendons around the knee become hard and the weight also increases. This makes the condition worse. To improve the knee pain, first of all, losing weight is important. If you can lose weight by 7 lbs. (3 Kg), your knee will be much easier. Secondly when you have knee pain, you tend to have your knee always bent a little bit so it is important to straighten your knee, warming up your knee. Exercise for knee pain after soaking in the tub (Fig. 1) (1) Warm your knees by soaking in the tub. The joints and muscles around your knees become softer so your knees become easier to stretch. (2) Sit in a chair and stretch your knee slowly, having your toes face the ceiling. (3) Keep your knee straight for 10 seconds. (4) Repeat this 5-10 times for both legs. Once you have muscle strength and flexibility in your knee by this exercise, your knee pain will be improved.

Gingerol which is a pungent ingredient contained in a fresh ginger is effective to suppress the inflammation of the knee.
In 2014 Osteoarthritis Research Society International, it was reported, “Based on the empirical evidence, our data support that oral ginger is able to reduce pain and disability in OA.” The inflammation of the cartridge of the knee not only worsens the pain but also progresses the wearing of the cartridge. Ginger suppresses the inflammation, resulting in no pain and also prevents the wearing of the cartridge, resulting in keeping youthful knees. There is usually some wearing if you are over 60. The conditions of the cartridges of people who put a lot of stress to their knees for years but eat a lot of gingers every day were checked with MRI. As a results, the conditions of their cartridges are mostly normal including a person of 80s. How much ginger should we eat to prevent and improve Osteoarthritis of the knee? About 60 g (2.1 oz) of ginger (a piece of ginger) a day is recommended. Ginger paste in tube sold on the market contains about 40 g so 1.5 piece of the tube is about 60 g. It is necessary to eat this much of ginger every day to expect the effect, but it would be difficult. Dried ginger that ginger is dried in the sun is good to use because 90 % of ginger is water so 6 g of dried ginger is equal to raw ginger.
What is the difference between people who has a lot of proteoglycan and people who doesn’t?
I think the importance of proteoglycan was understood. Now why do some people have more proteoglycan and some people doesn't? Proteoglycan increases or decreases due to the difference of the casual lifestyle. The difference of the casual life style is if you bend and extend your knee in your daily life or not. Bending and extending the knee increase the blood flow of the knee, and more oxygen with blood is brought to the knee. The cartridge cells are activated by the oxygen, making more proteoglycan. 3 conditions decrease Proteoglycan 1. Weight gain – The more your weight is, the more the risk to break down the cartridge increases because of more burden to the knee. Breakdown of the cartridge causes the loss of the function as sponge, the difficulty of absorbing oxygen and nutrition, and lowering the metabolism of the cartridge, resulting in being difficult to make proteoglycan. 2. Over 40 years old – degeneration of the cartridge of the knee progresses from 40s gradually, leading to being difficult to make proteoglycan. 3. Female –Female’s cartridge tends to degenerate twice as many as male’s. Estrogen that is a female hormone has a function to protect the cartridge. Decrease of estrogen due to menopause makes the cartridge easy to damage, resulting in being difficult to make proteoglycan.
