What is the difference between 52 years old female who had a white shining plaque and other two who didn't have?
To judge if the plaque will emit a white light or not, it is important to watch the ratio of HDL and LDL cholesterol in addition to total cholesterol. LDL cholesterol is produced in the liver and delivered to the whole body through blood as the material of hormone or the ingredients of cell membrane. LDL cholesterol is essential to repair broken cells, but if LDL cholesterol is too much, it stays in blood vessels and goes into the wall of blood vessels through the scar, resulting in forming plaque. The substance which clean the over-increased LDL cholesterol is HDL cholesterol. HDL cholesterol retrieves the extra LDL cholesterol and takes them back to the liver. So even if LDL cholesterol increases too much, if HDL cholesterol is plenty, plaque will not be formed. On the contrary, even if LDL cholesterol is not too much, if HDL cholesterol is little, LDL cholesterol is not retrieved, resulting in forming plaque. Therefore, the balance of LDL and HDL cholesterol is important. When we set the value that LDL cholesterol is divided by HDL cholesterol as LDL/HDL ratio, what is LDL/HDL ratio to form a white shining plaque? The answer is that LDL/HDL ratio is more than 2.5. So if LDL/HDL is more than 2.5, there is a high probability that a white shining plaque is formed. LDL/HDL ratio of the female who had a white shining plaque is: LDL/HDL ratio=181/56=about 3.2 which is more than 2.5 On the other hand, other two males’ LDL/HDL ratios, who didn’t have a white shining plaque, were 172/81= about 2.1 and 118/52= about 2.3 which are less than 2.5. If you recognize your LDL/HDL ratio, you can grasp the possibility of the occurrence of heart attack.

Winter is the most dangerous season for heart attack (myocardial infarction).
Accumulation of cholesterol in a coronary artery overtime forms plaque. If the rapture of plaque happens, blood flow is blocked, resulting in death of heart muscle. In winter when it gets cold, our blood vessels shrink not to release heat. As a result, the flow rate of blood goes up and blood pressure tends to go up suddenly. Plaque is easily damaged by the stimulation of blood flow which power increased. With age, most people have more or less plaque. How can we prevent heart attack without bursting plaque? How to predict the occurrence of heart attack There is common characteristics among people who have a heart attack. There are two kinds of plaque. One is plaque which has the high possibility of bursting in the near future and another is plaque which doesn’t have the possibility. Plaque which has the high possibility of bursting emits a white light when MRI was taken on it. So if the plaque in your coronary artery emits a white light, you have the high possibility to have a heart attack within a few years. On the contrary, if the plaque doesn’t emit a white light, you don’t need to worry about it so much. The contents of the plaque with a white light is cholesterol invading the wall of blood vessel. The plaque is soft and easy to burst. But everybody has more or less cholesterol in the blood vessels. What is the difference between people whose plaque emits a white light and people whose plaque doesn’t emit a white light? Plaque of three persons whose cholesterol are more than the guide line was compared. 1. 67 years old male who doesn’t do any exercise for years, Cholesterol: 275 (Guide Line 220), Height: 172 cm, Weight: 53 kg 2. 53 years old male who likes high calorie meals as much as he had gout, Cholesterol: 250, Height: 168 cm, Weight: 60 kg 3. 52 years old female who likes carbohydrates, Cholesterol: 290, plumptious Among these three people, 52 years old female had white shining plaque in her coronary artery. According to the condition of the light, it is not in the condition bursting soon, but if she leaves the plaque as it is, there is a high possibility that the plaque will burst within a few years. What is the difference between 52 years old female who had white shining plaque and the other two who didn't? Overview
The patient is a 60s female diagnosed that she had 3 herniated discs in her low back. The herniated discs caused squeezing pain in her right thigh. She also had pain in the medial side of the right thigh when she lifted up her right leg laterally (abduction) so she couldn’t lift her right leg high laterally. She tried some other treatments but her symptoms didn’t improve. She came to see me referred by her massage therapist. My expectation was that the symptoms were caused by the herniated disks so it would get better little by little but take longer than 5 to 10 treatments. As a result of 6 acupuncture treatments, squeezing feeling in her right thigh disappeared and she could lift her right leg laterally without any pain. When her legs were lifted at 45 degrees, she felt pain at the back of both thighs. According to her pulse and abdomen, I decided her pattern as Kidney Deficiency and tonfied Right KD7 with Yang technique of Teishin. Lung was not so weak but needed to be tonified, so I tonified Left SI7. After 10 minutes rest, I treated her back with moxa, tonification with Teishin and tapped Ja Teishin on the tightness below BL23 and the hip. Then I treated her neck and inguinal area with her lying on her back, and dispersed a point of her Right hip with Ja Teishin with her sitting up. At the end of the treatment, SLR of her right leg was 60 degrees without pain and SLR of her left leg was also 60 degrees but there was pain behind her left knee. I finished her treatment marking 2 points on her hand and foot for her to put a penny and a nickel (6 cents treatment) on as her homework. [2nd Tx (1 week later)] Squeezing pain in her right thigh was better. She felt tight at the inside of her right thigh. The treatment was mostly the same. SLR of her right leg changed from 45 degrees with pain in the back of her thigh to 70 degrees without pain. [3rd Tx (1 week later)] 2 days ago she pulled her back when she tried to tie shoelace. Low back became painful after 30 minutes sitting. SLR: right leg 45 degrees with pain in medial side of the thigh, left leg 80 degrees with pain in front of thigh. [4th Tx (2 weeks later)] Medial side of right thigh had squeezing feeling when she lifted up her right leg laterally. After the treatment, SLR of right leg changed from 45 degrees to 70 degrees and she could lift her right leg higher laterally without squeezing feeling. She told me that after the treatments, the condition had been better for about 3 to 4 days, so I instructed her to come back in 4 days. [5th Tex (4 days later)] When she tried to massage her toes, she had cramps in her calves. She had pain in the medial side of her right thigh. Pain with abduction of right thigh disappeared. SLR of right leg was 60 degrees. Root treatment changed from Kidney Deficiency to Spleen Deficiency. I tonfied right SP3 with Yang technique and right GB36 with Yin technique. After the root treatment, SLR was improved. I instructed her not to eat too much at night to prevent cramps. [6th Tx (1 week later)] There was tightness around the medial side of right knee. There were no cramps. After the root treatment, SLR of her right leg changed from 60 to 80 degrees. [1 week later] When she brought her daughter for a treatment, she told me that there was no squeezing feeling in her right thigh and she could lift her right leg laterally without pain. I told her to come back when she felt tightness again. Consideration I presumed that it would take time to heal this condition since it was related to herniated discs and other various treatments didn’t work well, but contrary to my expectation, she got better by 6 treatments and she was so satisfied that she brought her daughter instead of herself. I consider that the followings helped the faster healing. (1) Importance of the root treatment: I usually have my patient take a rest after the root treatment for about 10 minutes without any needles. When I checked her SLR and other physical findings after the root treatment, there was big improvement. The root treatment contains only 1 or 2 touching needle with Teishin but I really felt the importance of the root treatment. (2) Having the patient get treatment before the effect of the last treatment disappears: She told me that her condition had been better for 3 to 4 days and then the symptoms had come back. So I told her to come back in 4 days and the symptoms didn’t come back, leading to faster healing. (3) Loosening the tightness on the hip: It seemed effective to treat the tightness and pressure pain around the greater trochanter and SI joint by touching Teishin and tapping Ja Teishin. Since I spent all day without runny nose the day before, I was off my guard and slept without any treatment on myself. The next morning when I woke up, my nose was stuffy. The stuffy nose didn’t go away even after lunchtime, especially my left nostril was stuffy. So I decided to treat myself.
First I tried some local treatments. I know the effectiveness of the root treatment from the treatment of runny nose, but I wanted to know how effective local treatments would be. I placed Ja Teishin on lower Yindo (Yintang: between eyebrows) and waited for a minutes or so, but there was no change in my nose. Next I tried left Bitsu (Bitong: At the highest point of the naso-labial groove), but again there was no change. Next I tried left LI1 and I felt slight opening in my nose but still stuffy. Unfortunately, all the local treatments didn’t work well. It was time to try the root treatment. The pattern was Kidney Deficiency. When I applied light stroke around KD7, I felt my left nostril was opening gradually. So I chose left KD7 and tonified with Yang technique for about 3 seconds. My left nostril mostly opened but there was still uncomfortable feeling in my nose. So I added tonifying left BL58 with Yin technique for about 5 seconds. Now my nose was completely open. To tell the truth, I was very surprised at the power of the root treatment because I hadn’t expected such instant improvement. Usually the above local treatments are effective and I often see instant improvement after treating these points. But when I treat patients, those local treatments are applied only after the root treatment was done. I realized that the effectiveness of the local treatment was halved if the root treatment was not done before, and if the root treatment was good, the local treatment was not necessary in some cases. That night I just slept without any treatment on myself to confirm if I would get better without any treatment. The next day I still had a lot of sneezing and runny nose, and I was blowing my nose all day. So I treated myself before I slept. I didn’t do the root treatment to know how effective the treatment without the root treatment would be. I just dispersed left LI4 and left ST39 by placing Ja Teishin for about a minute on each point. Though I was expecting I could stop runny nose and save Kleenex, the next day I still had to blow my nose all day. That night I treated myself again. This time I checked my pulse and abdomen, and decided the pattern as Kidney Deficiency and I did the root treatment only. I tonified left KD7 with Yang. After the tonificaiton of KD7, my abdomen became softer overall, but there was still tightness of muscles under the both sides of the rib cage, especially on the left side. I checked and tonified TW4 with Yin technique. Since the tightness disappeared and I thought the pulse was good, I went to bed. The next morning when I woke up, I blew my nose once, but since then I had neither sneezing nor runny nose all day. [Considerations] Runny nose related to the beginning of a cold is often treated as Lung Deficiency, but in my case I think Kidney Deficiency was appropriate. My Lung pulse is usually Sink and a little Excess so it tends to stagnate instead of deficient. The cause of runny nose seemed like the cold invaded Kidney. The reason that TW4 was used is the flow of energy between upper warmer and the middle warmer was not good, that means Lung was not weak but the breathing was not strong due to the stagnation at the diaphragm level, making the tightness under the rib cage. This is similar to seasonal allergies. The second day I just did dispersion on some points but they didn’t work because I think that it didn’t approach the cause of the problem. The third day I could realize the importance of the root treatment and how effective it was when the pattern matched the condition. On a winter morning, it is not recommended. Why? Because fruits or smoothie makes your body cold, causing various poor health such as sensitivity to cold, a common cold, sluggish feeling or constipation. As potassium contained in fruits and smoothie has an effect of encouraging urination, the heat in the body goes out and the body temperature goes down. The best breakfast to strengthen your immune system is Rice with a raw egg (Fig. 1) Raw eggs contain glutamine which is an amino acid and becomes nutrition for immune cells to fight against pathogenic bacteria. Glutamine is contained in raw eggs, raw fishes and raw meats. Glutamine’s function becomes weak if it is heated up so rice with a raw egg is recommended to strengthen the immune system and prevent a cold and flu. The best breakfast to warm your body is Miso soup with salmon (Fig. 2) When you eat something, heat is produced to convert foods into energy. Protein produces heat efficiently. Vitamin B1 dissolves sugar taken from the rice eaten together, makes the sugar easily absorbed and encourages the production of heat. So the combination of salmon and miso which are rich in protein and vitamin B1 is ideal to raise the body temperature. Since pork contains protein and vitamin B1, miso soup with pork (Tonjiru) is also recommended. When the body temperature raises by 1 degree C (1.8 degree F), the metabolism increases by 13%. If the abdomen is warmed up, the intestines move actively, leading to dissolving constipation. Adding olive oil to miso soup is more effective to warm your body. Olive oil makes oil film which increases the warming effect in the stomach. 1 to 2 table spoons of olive oil is good to add. - Tooth Brushing -The key word is Flu.
There is close relationship between tooth brushing and flu. Wrong way of teeth brushing on a winter morning: Before you go out, you brush your teeth quickly. Why is this wrong? If you don’t brush your teeth properly, the chance of getting flu increases rapidly. If you keep the timing to brush your teeth, you can make the change of getting flu one tenth. Why does brushing teeth prevent flu? The best way of brushing teeth in winter morning: Timing is important. When you wake up, bush your teeth first in the morning. Why? Because there are a lot of flu supporting enzymes called protease in the mouth. Protease is an enzyme caused by bacteria in the mouth. The mucus membrane of the throat plays a role of preventing virus infection. Protease destroys the wall of the mucus membrane and makes it easy to infect flu viruses. Therefore, protease is a bad guy who supports the infection of flu viruses. (Fig. 1 & 2) When you are up, bacteria are suppressed by saliva. On the other hand, while you are sleeping, the secretion of saliva is not much and dry, increasing bacteria in the mouth. If you eat something without tooth brushing, protease go into your body with food. Protease destroy the protein wall of the mucus membrane in the throat and supports the invasion of flu viruses. A flu virus attached on the throat invades the body in 20 minutes. So please brush your teeth first in the morning. - How to get up -
